Clamming/Fishing - Sunshine Coast BC

I will be making my first trip to the Sunshine Coast in October(5 people including me) and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on clam digging. I've always wanted to give it a try, but have no idea where to begin...

I will be staying around Sechelt, is it possible to do some clam digging /shore fishing near this area? Also, how do I find these suckers - what do I look for when the tide is out? How deep do I dig? Other than manila clams, can I expect to find razor clams as well? Do I need any special gear? I know, silly questions but I gotta start somewhere...
