Pender Harbour, Madeira Park, Garden BaySunshine Coast BCFor years the area has been referred to as the Venice of the North as there are many waterways throughout the area. It truly is a maze of narrow, deep canals and as such there are some really great protected moorage areas. There are over 103 linear miles of shoreline! It is a twisty windy section of road that links the communities together, and even locals have a difficult time keeping their bearings straight. The communities are Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Kleindale, Daniel Point, Hospital Bay & Pender Harbour. All of the communities have been known for their fabulous salmon fishing over the years, and it was originally a fishing and logging community. It was also the winter home for the Sechelt Nation. Mount Daniel still has the remains of moon rings. Moon rings are stone circles that were built by Sechelt Nation young girls as they entered into womanhood. There are also pictographs from the Sechelt Nation on the cliffs above beautiful Sakinaw Lake. There are several beautiful lakes in the area, Sakinaw Lake being one of them. There is also Ruby Lake and Katherine Lake. Katherine Lake hosts a regional district campground for tenting and recreational vehicles. To the north of the area is the village of Egmont and the Earl's Cove Ferry terminal. This terminal connects the lower Sunshine Coast to the Powell River area. The Pender Harbour Annual Jazz Festival is an event for Jazz lovers from everywhere.
